Pumpkin 12

Here's my 2012 jack-o'-lantern.

It wasn't a particularly good year for pumpkins due to the drought, and this one (along with Duo's) began to rot before carving day. Other parts of the pumpkin seemed very dense and hard to cut (the lid had to be cut three times and pried off with some muscle). This inconsistence throughout made carving a little more difficult this year.

I kept the design fairly simple. I've been toying around with designs for a female jack-o'-lantern for a few Halloweens now, but the sketches never turned out very "Halloweenie" so they were ultimately dumped.

The sketches on the left are a sample of the design progression. The top shows the original concept. I then built off of it to make the second design, which I liked very much but was once again not very Halloweenie (so I almost dumped the idea entirely). Accidentally stumbling across an online drawing of a cartoon cat, with simplified saw-blade style teeth, provided a solution to the problem and led to the final version.

Details were cut a lot deeper this year to improve illumination, but as a result I couldn't keep the edges of the details very clean (the aforementioned lack of consistency in density also contributed).
