Eh, these guys were a disappointment.

My job's sporadic schedule didn't leave me with much time to come up with designs for, let alone carve, these guys...

I'm happy with the smaller pumpkin's design, but not so much with the final product. I didn't discover until I got it home that the pumpkin wouldn't stand on it's own (it was standing fine whenever I set it down on the random terrain of the pumpkin patch, not so much when put on our concrete porch)...

I didn't have any time to actually plan the carving so it's face came out pretty rough.

I had no idea what to do with the larger pumpkin, beyond wanting it to have a monocle. ...I was striving for a sort of mad scientist type feel... but instead I ended up with the severed head of an aristocrat...

The flesh of the larger pumpkin turned out to be two times thicker than I was anticipating. I had to carve it's details deeper than I felt comfortable doing and a lot of the smaller bits were destroyed. Despite my efforts the candlelight barely illuminated the face's features.

As with the smaller pumpkin, I didn't have time to plan the carving process. I had intended to leave the lens on the monocle solid with different levels to it representing a cartoony reflection. Without a solid plan though, and in my haste, the details became muddled and damaged and I was forced to cut the lens and frame out entirely.

Uploaded for the sake a sharing, and the chance that people might still find them interesting.

The monocle chain, by the way, was a replacement pull-chain for a ceiling fan.

You have got to be kinder to yourself; the pumpkins turned out wonderfully, and I'm not the only person who thinks so! ^_^ The neighbors were amazed at them, isn't that enough to count them as a success? Boy?!? Yeah.
The monocle was a sweet idea
